Obituary for Rev. Arvil Edward Arwood

Rev. Arvil Edward Arwood, age 83, of Rowe, Virginia passed away Monday (December 12, 2022) in a Richlands, Virginia hospital. Born September 20, 1939 in Rowe, Virginia, he was a son of the late Tim and Rose Shortt Arwood. He had spent most of his life in southwest Virginia, aside from a few years in Manassas. He had been employed as a coal miner and carpenter. He loved attending church, fishing, hunting and camping. A dedicated Christian, he gave his life to the Lord on May 24, 1966 and the Lord called him into the ministry. He served as deacon and assistant at several area churches, including Rowe Pentecostal Church and Oakwood Full Gospel. He was Pastor of Outreach Temple for over twenty-two years. During his ministry, he preached over four hundred funerals, baptized countless new converts and performed many weddings. He visited the sick and shut-in and was a faithful prayer warrior and friend. He endured until the very end, like Paul when he said in II Timothy 4:7-8, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith. Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness.”
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Roy Arwood, Lawrence Arwood, and infant, Carl Arwood; five sisters, Edgar Patton, Hazel Street, Lois Street Cook, Helen Martin, and Bea Miller; sons-in-law, Henry Harris and Charles “Buck” Landes; former daughter-in-law, Charlotte Cook Mackey; and best friends, James and Carolyn Lester. In his generation, he was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years, Virginia Fuller Arwood; one son, Danny Arwood; one daughter, Tammy Arwood; grandchildren, Jason Cook and Sarah, Tara Hill and Eric, William Hale, Daniel Beamer, Jarrid Looney and Erin, Victoria Roberts and Roy, Dalton Harris, Colby Landes, and Caiden Landes; great-grandchildren, C.J., Landon, Carter, Knox, Devin, Eli, Raistlin, and Lesly; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Kinder officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia.
