Richard Allen Hess, age 71, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Wednesday (January 26, 2022) in a Norton, Virginia hospital. Born December 31, 1950 in Richlands, Virginia, he was a son of the late Billy and Beulah Mae Owens Hess. A lifelong resident of the area, he had been employed as an electrician for Island Creek Coal Company for twenty-three years, until he became disabled. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching old westerns, and spend time outdoors. He was a great mechanic and an overall Jack of all trades. His greatest joy came from spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Rosa Lee Tolliver, Ollie Mae Smith and Fayrene Gladys Anderson.
Survivors include his wife, Betty Rasnake Hess of the home; three children, Anthony Bryan Hess and wife, Rose of Honaker, Virginia and Virginia Renee Hess and Mike Dunford of Lebanon, Virginia and Alicia Perkins and wife, Melissa of Honaker, Virginia; three granddaughters, Destiny Hess, Amiyah Hess and Riley Morgan; siblings, Billie Gene Hess, Gary Wayne Hess, Kenneth Hess, Phyllis Tiller and Bonnie Hart; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Monday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wayne Baldwin officiating. Interment will follow in the Hess Cemetery at Chestnut Ridge.
Pallbearers will be Terry Hart, Michael Hart, Mike Dunford, Jamie Pruitt, Bruce Baldwin, Michelob Lester and Alvin Hess.
Darrell Hess and Paul Herndon will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6 PM Sunday.
