Obituary for Rita Harris (Helton)

Mrs. Rita Carol Harris, age 60, of the Combs Ridge section of Council, Virginia went to be with the Lord on Monday (February 1, 2021) at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Born October 28, 1960 in Grundy, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Hurshel and Edith Ball Helton. A lifelong resident of the area, she was of the Christian faith. She was employed as a custodian at Council Elementary and Council High School for the past twenty-five years. Always willing to lend a helping hand, she enjoyed four-wheeling, crafting, gardening, traveling, and shopping, but most of all spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two infant siblings, Donald Helton and Sharon Helton, and her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Carson and Lucy Harris.
Survivors include her husband of forty-five years, Roger Harris of the home; one daughter, Dedra Lynn Harris of the home; one sister, Betty Lester and husband, Doyle of Belfast; one brother, Rickie Helton and wife, Patty of Council; her “adopted” children, Santana Stiltner and Tyler Davidson; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, her work family, and many friends also survive.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Chris and Jessica Davidson, and the teachers and staff of Council Elementary and Council High School for all the love and support that they provided.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12 Noon on Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Chester Ball and Rev. Darrell Milgrim officiating. Interment will follow in the Helton Cemetery on Stinson Ridge.
Pallbearers will be Chris Davidson, Tyler Davidson, Brent Compton, Greg Rasnake, Mason Hess, and Terry Austin.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brady Harris, Harlis Harris, Clyde Harris, Roy Harris, Curt Wilson, Tim Ratliff, Marley Ball, Gary Price, and Donald Ray Harris.
Due to COVID restrictions mandated by the governor, a mask is required. For those unable or uncomfortable attending, the funeral service will be livestreamed on our Facebook page as well as our webpage.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Friday, where an evening service will be conducted at 7:00 PM with Rev. Robert Tiller and Rev. Daniel Richardson officiating.
