Mr. Robert John Woolford, age 86, of Abingdon, Virginia, formerly of the Big A Mountain section of Honaker, Virginia, lost his fight with kidney failure on Saturday (January 22, 2022) in an Abingdon, Virginia hospital. Born January 20, 1936 in Honaker, Virginia, he was a son of the late Eugene “Bud” and Lucy Ellen Patrick Wolford. Robert grew up on Big A Mountain, where he spent most of his life. He started working for S & S Machinery in 1961 and continued with them for nearly forty years. He loved to farm and had a passion for horses. A member of Bethany Baptist Church, he attended Emmanuel Baptist Church after moving to Abingdon. A genuine family man, he was a devoted husband and father.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Robert Eugene Woolford and infant, Robert John Woolford, Jr., grandson, Joseph Eugene Woolford, two brothers, Burl Wayne Wolford and Jerry Eugene Wolford, and infant sister, Betty Louise Wolford.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-five years, Ollie Mae Woolford of the home; two daughters, Karen Roe and husband, Ronnie and Alesia Huffman all of Abingdon; two sons, John Wayne Woolford and wife, Renee of Honaker, and Gary Steven Adkins and wife, Shelly of Grass Lake, Michigan; one sister, Joan Steffey of Richmond; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Tuesday at the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Vonley Pruitt officiating. Entombment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be John Woolford, Gary Adkins, Bryan Banner, Matthew Huffman, Cleve Wolford, and Jerry Wayne Wolford.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 12 – 1 PM at the Honaker Funeral Home.
