Mr. Roger Lee Dye, age 73, of Drill section of Russell County, Virginia, passed away Wednesday (March 9, 2022) at his home. Born August 4, 1948 in Drill, Virginia, he was a son of the late Cohen and Maggie Lee Perkins Dye. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a former coal miner, having been employed by Island Creek Coal Company and a member of the UMWA. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, hunting, fishing, camping, and spending time at the lake.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Compton Dye, and one sister, Helen Miller.
Survivors include three children, Lorrie Eggers and husband, Travis of Blountville, Tennessee, Jason Dye and wife, Carla of Mendota, Virginia, and Robert Dye of Lebanon, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Karra Davis and husband, Chad, Tre Bunn, Shey Bunn, Alex Bunn, Peyton Bailey and husband, Dalton, McKenzie Caldwell and husband, Todd, and Cody Eggers and wife, Kayla; one sister, Diana Compton of Lebanon, Virginia; special friend, Bobby Rasnake; his dog, Maggie Pie; several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. David Perkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Perkins Cemetery near the home.
Pallbearers will be Jamie Meadows, Shey Bunn, Johnny Fields, Robert Fields, Edward Cornett, and Dalton Bailey.
Honorary pallbearers will be Fayne Hess, Jay Smith, Randy Compton, and David Compton.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home on Sunday from 1 – 2PM.
