Obituary for Ronnie Steve Ray

Rev. Ronnie Steve Ray, Pastor of Perkins Chapel in Swords Creek, VA went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ early Monday morning, October 24, 2022. Born April 8, 1943 in Richlands, Virginia, he was a son of the late Claude and Pauline Perkins Ray. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a disabled coal miner. He had served as pastor of Perkins Chapel Church for over twenty years. He had proudly served his country in the United States Army in Vietnam and continued to serve his community as an active member of VFW Post 9864 of Lebanon, Virginia. For many years, Steve began each day by praying and reading the Bible before doing anything else. He faithfully served his church, and as a Military Veteran he performed the final rites for countless other Veterans.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Peggy Robinson; and two sons, Robert Robinson, and John David Robinson; one brother, Ralph Ray; one sister, Linda Faye Keen; and three brothers-in-law, Paul Keen, Michael Whited, and Sherman Perkins.

Family members left to cherish his memory are his wife of fifty-five years, Vivian B. Ray of Swords Creek, VA, two sons, Andrew and wife Wanda Kay Robinson of Charleston, IL, and James Robinson of Coeburn, VA; two daughters, Tammy and husband Larry Plaster of Rosedale, VA, and Rosemary Robinson of Swords Creek, VA: and one daughter-in-law, Reba Robinson of Swords Creek, VA; four grandchildren, Christy Bowman, Emerald Davis, Jekeyma Robinson, and Andrea Kay Desecki; five great grandchildren, Asher Davis, Arabella Davis, Braydon Plaster, Lara Ray, and Alex Bowman; four great great grandchildren, Bowen Plaster, Wrenley Plaster, Paxton Ray, and Colson Ray; five brothers, Dewey and wife Jeanette Ray, Louis and wife Anna Ruth Ray, Robert Ray, Claude and wife Nancy Ray Jr, and Kenny and wife Kim Ray; two sisters, Helen Whited, and Wilma and husband Sam Deskins; special friend, Gary Breedlove; and members of Perkins Chapel Church.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Daniel Richardson, Rev. Ellis Whited, and Rev. Junior Ray officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Virginia.

Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 9864 of Lebanon, Virginia.

Nephews and nieces will serve as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers will be the members of Perkins Chapel Church.

The family will receive friends after 6:00 PM Friday at Honaker Funeral Home.
