Mr. Roy Junior Blankenship, age 76, of Doran, Virginia, passed away Saturday (October 29, 2022) at his home. Born February 28, 1946 in Tazewell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Charlie Thomas and Louise Ellen Cordle Blankenship. A lifelong resident of the area, he was of the Holiness faith. He was a disabled coal miner and had been employed at Dorothy Mae Coal Company. He enjoyed fishing and playing music, but most of all spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter, Patsy Marie Blankenship; one son, Thomas Jeffery Lee Blankenship; three brothers, James Blankenship and his wife, Jean, Fred Blankenship, and Noah David Blankenship; and one special nephew, Eric Lester.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-three years, Bernice Blankenship of the home; three children, Mary Martin and husband, Gary of Richlands, David Blankenship of the home, and Tammy Hunnell and husband, Douglas of Richlands, Virginia; step-grandchildren, Douglas Hunnell and Danielle Huffman; two sisters, Barbara Royal and husband, Eddie of Doran and Mary Faye Royal of Middle Creek; two brothers, Roger Blankenship and wife, Kathy of Wardell and Ronald Blankenship and wife, Judy of Red Root Ridge; sister-in-law, Terri Lynn Blankenship; special nieces, Deborah Matney and Debbie Cordle; special nephew, Bobby Mullins; special feline companion, Midnight; several additional nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Dannie Shortt officiating. Interment will follow in Clinch Valley Memorial Cemetery at Richlands, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Mullins, Eddie Royal, Scottie Blankenship, Roger Blankenship, David Lester, Kenneth Cordle, and Randy Cordle.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Tim Brewster, Douglas Hunnell and Gary Martin
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Thursday, where an evening song service will be conducted at 7:00 PM.
