Ryan William Smith, age 16, of Grundy, Virginia, passed away Thursday (April 20, 2023). Born May 28, 2006 in Richlands, Virginia, he was a son of Russell Lee and Priscilla Louisa Compton Smith of Grundy. He was currently a Junior student at Grundy High School, had formerly attended Lebanon High School and was a former employee at Hardee’s in Grundy. He attended Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church in the Red Root Ridge area of Raven, Virginia. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Mack Aaron Smith, maternal grandmother, Vera Avon Charles, and one uncle, Jared Smith.
In addition to his parents, survivors include one brother, Russell Lee Smith, Jr. of Grundy; three sisters, Ada Emily Avon Smith of Grundy, Courtney Nicole White and husband, Landon of Honaker, and Ashley Leigh Smith of Honaker; paternal grandmother, Ada Silcox of Lebanon; five nieces, Jarelynn Grace White, Maddison Faith White, Maeleigh Hope White, Teagan Harmony White, and Laken Jane Smith; several aunts, uncles, and many friends also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Wednesday at the Macedonia Old Regular Primitive Baptist Church at Red Root Ridge, Raven, Virginia with the Elders of the Old Regular Primitive Baptist Washington Association officiating. Interment will follow in the Simmons and Smith Cemetery on Red Root Ridge.
Pallbearers will be Delmar Chester Smith, II, Derick Wesley Smith, Dustin Alexander Smith, Jody Aaron Smith, Larry Ethan Lester, and Landon Corey White.
The family will receive friends Monday and Tuesday after 6 PM at Macedonia Old Regular Primitive Baptist Church at Red Root Ridge, Raven, Virginia.
