Obituary for Shirley Arbutis Matney (Street)

Shirley Arbutis Street Matney, age 79, of Rowe, Virginia, passed away Friday (April 9, 2021) at Commonwealth Senior Living in Claypool Hill, Virginia. A native of Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late Ervin and Emma Jackson Street. She was born May 4, 1941. Shirley was a 1960 graduate of Garden High School in Oakwood, Virginia. She worked as a custodian for about thirty years at both Garden Elementary and High School, where she loved and cared for her students and the staff. She attended the Sullivan Branch Pentecostal Holiness Church and always had an unwavering faith in God. She shared her faith and the love of God with all those around her, enjoyed praying for others and singing songs of praise in church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Johnnie Estil Matney and one brother, Clarence Eugene Street.
Survivors include her children, Rita Breeding and husband, Clifford, Tony Matney and wife, Charlotte, Donna Taylor, Kayla Matney and Joshua Evans; grandchildren, Samantha Breeding Lane and husband, Chad, Johnathan Breeding and wife, Melissa, Mallorie Matney Street and husband, Issac, Dalton Matney, Tiffany Ratliff, Christopher Ratliff, Chloe, Emma and Zaiden; great-grandchildren, Weston Lane, Payton Lane and Colton Lane, Jace Breeding, Autumn Street, Austin Street and Avery Street; sister, Beulah Street Fletcher and brothers, Ronnie Street, Jimmy Street and Marty Street and wife, Carol; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends also survive.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to her loving caregiver and friend, Diane Stevens, who cared for Shirley the past five years of her life. Anna Davis also provided assistance with her care in recent years. Also, a special thanks to Home Nursing Company Hospice of Lebanon, Virginia, Lisa Lawson, RN, Steve Fletcher, RN, Megan Lester, RN, Joshua Vestal, Chaplain and Linda Gross, CAN. They also express the greatest gratitude to the staff of Commonwealth Senior Living for the wonderful care they provided.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Sunday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Tiller officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenhills Memory Gardens at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Pastor Edward Tiller and the Ladies Club of Big A Mountain Free Christian Church will host a special dinner for family and friends immediately following the service at the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Clifford Breeding, Johnathan Breeding, Dalton Matney, Issac Street, Chad Clifton, Dwight Lester, Chris Hale and Chad Lane.
The family will receive friends after 6 PM Saturday at Honaker Funeral Home, where an evening service will be conducted at 7 PM with Rev. Edward Tiller and Rev. Randy Webb officiating.
