Mr. Wesley Alan Sanders, age 45, of Christiansburg, Virginia, passed away Sunday (May 1, 2022) in a Roanoke, Virginia hospital. Born March 30, 1977 in Great Falls, Montana, he was a son of Allen Ferrell Sanders and Connie Ling Thompson. He spent his early life in Montana, prior to returning to Virginia. He was a 1995 graduate of Floyd County High School and had obtained a Bachelor of Wood Science Degree from Virginia Tech. He was a very talented wood worker and enjoyed crafting doll furniture and other items from wood for his children. More than anything, he enjoyed being outdoors. He spent his spare time fishing, kayaking and loved hockey and music.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Robert “Robbie” Sanders; maternal grandfather, George Ling; paternal grandparents, Estel and Goldie Sanders; and several aunts and uncles.
In addition to his parents, survivors include two children, Makayla Johnson of Cleveland, Virginia and Lennox Sanders-Smith of Roanoke, Virginia; two grandchildren, Piper Raelynn Thompson and Coewan Jasper Thompson both of Cleveland, Virginia; one brother, Matthew Bishop of Christiansburg, Virginia and maternal grandmother, Ruby Ling and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM Thursday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Edward Tiller officiating. Interment will follow in the Sanders Cemetery at Stinson Ridge, Virginia.
There will be a meal provided for family and friends following the burial at 924 Creekside Drive, Lebanon, Virginia 24266.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Duty, Matthew Bishop, Dustin Sanders, Jason Israel, Timmy Sanders and David Sanders.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home from 12:30 PM until 2 PM Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Brain Injury Association of Virginia, 2810 N. Parham Richmond, Virginia 23294.
