Mr. Willard Dean Hess, age 66, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Monday (November 16, 2020) in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born January 3, 1954 in Lebanon, Virginia, he was a son of Garland Burke and Virginia Frances Vance Hess of Honaker. A lifelong resident of the area, he was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He had formerly been employed as a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry, and gardening, but most of all spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Michael Hess, his grandparents, Beverly and Josie Hess, and cousin, Leonard Clinton Taylor.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his wife of thirty-seven years, Mary Hess of the home; four children, Amanda Catherine McGlothlin and husband, Bryan of Honaker, Adam Jefferson Hess and wife, Jessica of Lebanon, Alaina Leenore Sykes and husband, Daniel of Cleveland, and Aaron Michael Hess of Honaker; nine grandchildren, Levi McGlothlin, Lydia McGlothlin, Brody Hess, Tegan Hess, Imogene Hess, Cambria Sykes, Coheed Sykes, Alkaline Sykes, and William Hess; two siblings, Pheebe Rowe and husband, Chris, and Sammy Dale Hess and wife, Sharon; special aunt, Frances Taylor; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Thursday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Sam Hess officiating. Interment will follow at Ketron Memorial Gardens in Lebanon, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Dylan Bryant, Jason Rowe, Justin Rowe, Raymond Taylor, and Herman Honaker.
Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 9864 of Lebanon, Virginia.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Wednesday.
Due to COVID restrictions, mandated by the governor, a mask is required for those in attendance.
