Obituary for William David "Bill" Newton

William David “Bill” Newton, age 74, of the Wysor Valley section of Honaker, Virginia passed away February 17, 2020. Born September 20, 1945 in Rochester, New York, he was a son of the late Oscar J. and Mae Louise Ashby Newton. He spent most of his life in Rochester, New York, prior to moving to Honaker, Virginia in 2003. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Richlands, Virginia. He was a man that always enjoyed being around people. He was never idle and always had a project that he was working on, whether it be carpentry, landscaping or tending to his flowers and vegetable gardens. He enjoyed sharing the fruit of his labor with his friends and neighbors. He also had a love for trains and was formerly employed as an automotive parts salesman. One of his greatest joys came from being a HAMM Radio operator. His handle was KJ4UEK and he was president of the Russell County Amateur Radio Association.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Louise, Robert, Delbert and Beatrice.
Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-five years, Betsy Ann Newton of the home; four children, Tamara Newton of Farmington, New York, William Newton and wife, Katherine of Abingdon, Virginia, Timothy Newton and wife, Sherry of Honaker, Virginia and Duane Newton and wife, Annelyn of Everett, Washington; seven grandchildren, Windi, Jeffrey, Brian, Amber, Tiffany, Hunter and William; three great-grandchildren, Chelsey, Triston and Teigan; one sister, Lorraine Curtis; eight brothers, Melvin Newton, Howard Newton, Edward Newton, Kenneth Newton, Bruce Newton, Lawrence Newton, Ritchie Newton and Jerry Newton; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Friday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel with Branch President, Jody Shelton officiating. Interment will follow in the J. Clark Cemetery on Big A Mountain.
Pallbearers will be Billy Newton, Timothy Newton, Duane Newton, Hunter Newton Meade, Dwayne Meade and Zach Horne.
Jody Shelton and Frank Moure will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Honaker Funeral Home after 6 PM Thursday.
