William W. C. Crabtree, age 60, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Tuesday (April 12, 2022) in Durham, North Carolina. Born May 26, 1961 in Russell County, Virginia, he was a son of the late Margie Mae Honaker Owens. A lifelong resident of the area, he had been employed as a coal miner with Dominion Coal for over thirty years. A recipient of a double lung transplant four years ago, he enjoyed fishing and being outdoors, but most of all spending time with his family, especially his grandson.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by one sister, Cathy Byrd, his grandmother, Sophia Wilson, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Faye and Flossie Hess.
Survivors include his wife of forty years, Janet Crabtree of the home; one son, William Lee Crabtree and wife, Emily of Honaker; grandson, Asa Fate Crabtree; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Saturday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Steve Perkins and Rev. Guy Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens at Lebanon, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Brian VanDyke, Kevin McGlothlin, Tony Oscar, and Mike Honaker.
Honorary pallbearers will be Mike McGlothlin, Ferrell Shortridge, Glen Hess, and Bob Winchester, and Burnie Hess.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Friday, where an evening service will be conducted at 7:00 PM.
