Mrs. Zora Mae Miller Compton, age 97, of Honaker, Virginia, passed away Monday (May 31, 2021) at her home. Born December 2, 1923 in Russell County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Hobert McKinley and Leah Catherine Fuller Miller. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a member of Honaker Church of God. She enjoyed reading her Bible and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Maven Howard Compton, one son, Maven McKinley Compton, two daughters, Terry Lee Harris and Lois Ann Hughes, four sisters, Gertrude Peck, Myrtle Stump, Flora Helton, and Pauline Marshall, three brothers, James Miller, Jack Miller, and Russell Miller, and seven grandchildren.
Those left to carry on her spirit are four daughters, Katherine Marie Helton, Pearl Nadine Hess, and Shirley Compton all of Honaker, and Sylvia Lester and husband, Clinton of Big Rock; two sons, Larry Compton of North Carolina and James Darrel Compton and wife, Mary of Honaker; two sisters, Mary Louise Thompson of Honaker and Gedie Wood of Bluefield; her daughter at heart, Barbara Baldwin; thirty-eight grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Larry Brooks and Rev. Stevie Hess officiating. Interment will follow in the Clark Cemetery in Honaker, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Chris Compton, Michael Hubbard, Matthew Compton, McKinley Compton, Johnny Childress, Michael Childress, and grandsons.
The family will receive friends at the Honaker Funeral Home after 6:00 PM Wednesday, where an evening song service will be conducted at 7:00 PM.
