Mrs. Yvonne Breeding Ray, age 86, of Hurricane Creek section of Vansant, Virginia, passed away Saturday (August 4, 2018) in Commonwealth Memory Care of Cedar Bluff, Virginia. Born May 11, 1932 in Davenport, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Ellis and Julia Presley Breeding. A lifelong resident of the area, she was a 1950 graduate of Council High School and had received her Bachelor’s Degree from Radford University. She was formerly employed by the Buchanan County Public School System, teaching over thirty-four years at Presley School and Council Elementary School.
Survivors include her husband of fifty-nine years, Carl Ray; three children, Jeffrey Ray of Hurricane Creek, Pamela Ray and Clinton of Claypool Hill, Virginia, and Jennifer Ray Elkins and husband, David of Atlanta, Georgia; two grandsons, Gavin Elkins and Sam Elkins; five siblings, Louise Allen of Dayton, Ohio, Udell Breeding and wife, Roxie and Zane Breeding all of Miamisburg, Ohio, A.F. “John” Breeding and wife, Kim of Vandalia, Ohio; Novelda Kahlau of Marco Island, Florida; several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Commonwealth Memory Care and Senior Living and the Faculty and Staff of Council Elementary.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Carl Burmeier officiating. Entombment will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Lebanon, Virginia.
Relatives and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends after 6:00 PM Wednesday at the Honaker Funeral Home, Honaker, Virginia.
