Obituary

Robert Shawn Vance, Sr., age 57, of Swords Creek, Virginia passed away Tuesday (November 17, 2020) at Heritage Hall of Tazewell. Born June 17, 1963 in Cudahy, Wisconsin, he was a son of Thelma Jean Goodman Vance of Swords Creek, Virginia and the late William Burbridge “Burb” Vance. He was a 1981 graduate of Grundy High School and a member of Ivy Springs Baptist Church at Swords Creek. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and tending to his animals.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Ellen Kitts Vance; one daughter, Rhonda Michelle Vance; one brother, Billy Vance; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Groce and Tammy Kitts.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include three children, Shawna Slagle and husband, Matt of Bristol, Tennessee, Robert Shawn Vance, Jr. and wife, Amber of Lebanon, Virginia and William Jeffery Vance of the home; six grandchildren, Natalie Vance, Collin Hankins, Connor Hankins, Ava Vance, Lindsey Slagle and Sarah Slagle; one brother, Dwayne Vance; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Linda Hatfield Vance, Susan and JR Bond, Kathy Kitts and Doug and Dana Kitts; special caregiver, Misty Kitts and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 PM Saturday in the Ward Cemetery at Swords Creek, Virginia with Rev. Phillip Cook officiating. Interment will follow. Those wishing to attend are asked to assemble at the cemetery.
Due to the COVID regulations mandated by the governor, a mask must be worn by everyone in attendance.
Pallbearers will be Andy Kitts, Matthew Shifflett, Marcus Shifflett, Scotty Bond and Chris Kitts.
Honorary pallbearers will be Anthony Price, Kevin Dye, Devon Vance, Freddie Dye and Joe Sweeney.
